Amplified Publishing Prototype Announcement
Since April 2021 the Amplified Publishing cohort has been researching the future of publishing across multiple sectors, from books to magazines through the visual arts and augmented reality. We’ve been exploring some of the many questions we have about the content industry and what it means to publish, thinking through future models of content creation, discovery and distribution. Our research spans many subjects in this area from AI-based illustration tools, how VR & literature interact with one another, to what growing up with technology at our fingertips means for children and adults from disadvantaged communities. Our research is both amplified and challenged by the near-constant evolution of technology and the huge range of ethical issues this raises, including those brought into focus by the climate crisis.
Our cohort’s discussions provided a valuable framework for our funding call and we have built on this work to propel the conversation forward through our investment in three exciting Amplified Publishing prototypes.
We are delighted to introduce the businesses behind these prototypes: Storm Jar, Network N and Lost Horizon. All three prototypes are driven by the desire to find ways to enable creators to generate sustainable income streams, find new audiences, and innovate through the creative and ethical use of technology. As you’ll see, these projects have the potential for impact well beyond the creative industries in Bristol and Bath. We hope you’ll find the prototypes as exciting as we do.
Storm Jar with the use of environmentally sustainable NFTs Storm Jar are creating a new, horror social content creation experience called the Nightmare Auction, where monsters trade the nightmares of humankind. The project will build a community around nightmares that then become different forms of content - a game demo, a short film and a digital experience.
