Digital technology continues to develop at an exponential pace, radically changing how we live, work and play - but the relationship between technology and sustainability is complex. Virtualising products and services might enable less consumption of valuable resources but digital technology also consumes power and creates significant waste as kit becomes obsolete. What is clear is that realising benefits requires an ambitious and visionary approach to ensuring the ubiquitous and equitable availability of cutting edge digital connectivity.

Connecting Bath is a report commissioned by Bristol + Bath Creative R+D. The current/planned roll-out of 5G connectivity and the future development of 6G are potentially significant opportunities for the creative industries in Bath. Under the leadership of Kate Pullinger, Bristol + Bath Creative R+D commissioned City Global Futures to undertake this research, exploring the feasibility of a private, cutting edge digital network for Bath.
